It’s all go here!
I’m heading off today to the RNA conference in Greenwich for the weekend. Can’t wait!
I’ve promised a couple of people a full report when I get back.
See you next week!

as in, I have been.
This is what I’ve been up to. I have photos and everything.
We had a holiday. An unprecedented move as holidays tend to happen at the end of August. But as the schools ended when they ended and the summer camps started when they started we were left with a week of childcare juggling and thought hey! Why not go away? Continue reading MIA
On Friday night we went on a night tour of Wicklow Gaol – highly recommended, really entertaining and very moving.
Oh, and creepy.
It’s known as one of the most haunted places in Ireland. Actors in period costume greet you, introduce you to the gaol and its history and, oh yes, follow you around scaring the bejaysus out of you!
At one point, my best friend E and I were standing in a cell (a tiny tiny dark cell) reading something on the wall, when a convict crept up behind us silently, leaned in between us and said, in a whisper “do you have any money?”
Screams, jumps, minor cardiac incidents, general hillarity for everyone else. 😀
Overall its a fantastic experience. Especially at night. The actors are amazing, the gaol is really well organised, fascinating and very very moving.
I stood in one room and it felt like my breath had been stolen from me, in another and I just wanted to cry, on the deck of a model of a transport ship where the slope of the deck and the sound of the quays made me feel like I was standing on a ship at sea.
And one room… oh man… it was weird. Like you walked in and the pressure completely changed, closing in around you.
Did I see anything? No. But there are lots of orbs in my photos. Whatever those orbs might be. You can make up your own minds 🙂
Btw, the people in 18th/19th century prison clothes… yes, they would be the actors. Honest. 😉
Awesome research material. Awesome night out.
I’m having a very happy Star Wars day (May the 4th, geddit??? 😉 ) as my paranormal romance Soul Fire comes out in print today. The author copies are sooooo pretty!
Currently its up on MyBookstore and More, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. I’ll add other sites as they pop up on my radar. In the meantime, here are the details.
“Soul Fire” from Samhain Publishing “No question about it, Soul Fire is monumentally thrilling and exotic. I couldn’t put the book down. A rare treat for me, I devoured this story from beginning to end in one sitting and I want more! … An out of this world paranormal romance/fantasy story that will have readers clamoring for more, Soul Fire is one hot read I will be recommending to all of my friends.” — Amanda Haffery, ParaNormalRomance
“In Soul Fire, R. F. Long has created an intriguing world of light and dark magic. Of intense action and hot love. From the opening scene, she drew me in. Captivated me. She’s taken an age old tale of good versus evil and has freshened it up with unique characters … I recommend R. F. Long’s Soul Fire. It made me smile and love and not want to put the book down.” – Sandra Barkevich, Romantic Inks (read the full review here)
“a great fast read, like a snowball rolling and constantly gaining momentum.” – Natalie, IReadRomance.com
“Let me start by saying “wow!”…R.F. Long has the amazing ability to drag her readers into the story and carry them along for the ride. The characters were unique and out of this world, yet they seemed like someone you could get along with and have fun with… If you want to read something mind-blowing and incredible then I would recommend you read this story.” ~~ Tulip, Whipped Cream Erotic Romance Reviews, 5 Cherries
Iron born and iron bred.
Trust not iron, it will see you dead.
Rowan Blake could really use a magic wand to keep her struggling art gallery afloat. But the faerie key she stumbles across is far from a lucky charm. It’s a magnet for danger, and by touching it she’s unwittingly put herself in the middle of a war between the forces of light and dark. And in the arms of its rightful owner, Prince Daire.
While searching for his brother, Daire finds himself trapped in the Iron World with a mere mortal woman who ignites his passion like no other. Each stolen kiss deepens their attraction and sends him spiraling closer and closer to the edge of his inherent dark desires. Desires that act as a homing beacon for the Dark Sidhe, who are intent on forcing him to fight on their side.
The longer he lingers in her arms—and in her bed—the closer his enemies get to her door. And the greater the risk that the gateway to the Faerie Realm will shift, destroying not only his power to protect her, but his very life.
Warning: Contains enchantments, danger, some very scary monsters, a trip to the dark side and hot, soul-transforming sex with an immortal prince.
Thanks to Wyvernfriend for the tip off we went into Dublin today and found…
*drumroll*
a copy of The Scroll Thief in Waterstones!

Soooooooo exciting as it’s the first time I’ve seen it in the wild! Great was the squeeing (from me and from the family). We talked to the staff, and signed the book. And jumped up and down some more.
In other news, I’m guestblogging today at the Mad Genius Club on Myths – Old and New. Please stop by and make me look popular!!!
And just a mini reminder… Soul Fire comes out in print on Tuesday. Yay!
As part of her ongoing Job Description series, Bria Quinlan asked me to write my job description, as a writer.
I decided I am a Multitasking Menace.
Why not head over and see what you think?
The Samhain Reader’s Choice Awards (or Sammies) are now running so here I am pathetically begging respectfully requesting your votes for Soul Fire and The Scroll Thief. By R. F. Long, no less. *winningsmile*
In other words “Vote for ME!”
Terry Kate is having a very special competition on Romance in the Back Seat.
~~
Hello to all and welcome Fall and the beginning of the Holiday Season.
Romance in the Backseat

Why not pop along and see what you can give to someone special?
Well, it may have taken a day and a half to recover, but you had Excerpt Monday yesterday to entertain yourselves…
I had an absolute ball at Octocon. So did the kids, but more on that later. Everyone was very welcoming and there was a fantastic atmosphere all weekend. With the tensions earlier that week resolved I think everyone attending was determined to enjoy themselves to the fullest. So here is a brief summary, with (because it’s me) pictures*.
This was the first con where I was actually participating. I ended up participating more than I expected (which was not a bad thing) and so did my family. The kids were in heaven between some spectacular facepainting, stickers for the badges, a games room, the Top Monster competition and lego. Many thanks to Nichola, Cat and others for welcoming the terrible twosome and entertaining them. Even if they did keep trying to steal your biscuits. Continue reading Octocon 09 and book launch
Romance in the Backseat’s Terry Kate recently interviewed me for their Paranormal section, Backseat Nightmares. We had a lot of fun in chat that evening. The first part is up today. There may be more… you have been warned. 😉
